EB Research Partnership Australia · The Giving Portfolio Audit

Do you
or do you invest?

You'd never run an investment portfolio without auditing it. Most people have never once audited their giving. Ten questions, scored against a venture philanthropy model with a track record: it helped take a rare genetic disease from no approved treatments to three.

Who's asking

We're EB Research Partnership Australia — an Australian charity changing the way charitable giving works in this country. We don't spend donations. We invest them. When a therapy we funded succeeds commercially, we take a share of the upside and recycle it into the next project, so a single gift keeps funding research long after it's made.

We fund the best science, wherever it is. As part of a global research partnership, Australian capital backs breakthroughs here and overseas — and the results flow both ways. A rare disease has too few patients and too few researchers for any one country to solve alone, which is exactly why we don't try to. The figures above are what this global partnership has achieved to date.

About EB Epidermolysis bullosa is a rare genetic condition that leaves skin as fragile as a butterfly's wing. It blisters and tears from ordinary contact — a hug, a seam, swallowing food — bringing relentless pain, severe itch, and for many, a significantly shortened life. There is no cure yet.

You've got the score.
Now here's what it opens.

Your score says where you stand. The report says what a giver like you can actually do about a rare disease with a cure in sight:

  • Your Kaleidoscope circle — where you'd sit among the donors funding this research, and what that group is currently backing
  • Your five dimension scores — with the one weak point costing you the most leverage, whoever you give to
  • Three concrete moves — the specific research opportunities matched to how you give, from first gift to catalytic partnership

A note on the lens: this audit measures your giving against one philosophy — venture philanthropy, the model behind the first approved treatments for epidermolysis bullosa (EB). It's a deliberate lens, not a universal one. Unrestricted general support, direct service funding and long-term institutional giving are all serious, effective approaches this scale doesn't reward. Read the score as a measure of fit with one model, not a verdict on your generosity.
